Proletariat deliver a post-punk beauty with their latest single ‘Ignorance’ and gave Great Wave Mag a few words.

  • Introduce the band, Where you from? Age? How long you been together?
Proletariat consists of James Cummins (21) on Vocals and Rhythm guitar, Connor Dolan (23) on Lead, Aaron Hall (19) on bass, and Luke O’Reilly (18) on the kit. We’re all from Mossley and Saddleworth, the land of many hills and interesting sounds.
We played our first gig back in August 2016, on the 19th at a venue called Aatma. Although Luke didn’t join us until November time for our first gig with This Feeling. He was actually the drummer for the band we supported during our first gig and the deal was made outside a club called 42s in the city centre. Funnily enough we’ve just marked our first year anniversary with a sold-out headline show at Soup Kitchen which was actually slightly oversold. It’s surreal to think of how this past year has played out, we never ever imagined it.
  • Signed/unsigned?
We’re unsigned, all our own thing at the minute. No management, no label, no publishers.

  • Whats the inspirations behind the new single?
Ignorance is a story about someone battling the demons of mental illness, and the chorus exemplifies the outcry of the sheer amount of people out there who sadly need help. There’s been a huge increase in awareness over recent years, and social media sites like Twitter can often be a godsend for people. But it still seems like people are suffering in silence, this song was a token of respect to them – it’s our implicit attempt to let them know they’re not alone.
  • What’s coming up for the band? Gigs, tour, studio time?
We’ve got plenty coming up! Here are our dates (below) and there WILL definitely be some studio time, although we can’t say what for just yet.
