Bristol post-punk ghouls, Heavy Lungs, reveal they Enjoy B&Q trips and niche rituals.

Introduce the Band:
Danny Nedelko – Vocals, Anxiety, Smokes, Likes ICEAGE A LOT.
George Charles Garratt – Drums, Learned Doctor, Sheds Clothes, Loves A Giggle.
James Minchall – Bass, Beanies, Bears, Beetroots, Didn’t Know How To Spell Grapefruit until 2018.
Oliver Southgate – Guitar, Glasses, Road Rage, Thinks He’s In Blur.
Does the band have any rituals before playing a gig?
We are pretty niche on this one, the itinerary is as follows;
George must complete one crossword, one soduku, one word-search and read a Haynes manual for a WWII jeep cover to cover in under 8 minutes.
James must knit a beanie for every gig so that it is unique to his head shape and hair length that night.
Danny scales the walls of the venue in climbing gear and must reach the summit by soundcheck.

Old writes Frasier fan-fiction and drinks 18 gallons of tea.

Is there a strong DIY ethic within Heavy Lungs?
We love a trip to B&Q on a Sunday, who doesn’t?
What was the writing process for ‘Abstract Thoughts’ & who did you work with to produce the EP?
We wrote the EP last summer starting from some of Danny’s demoed basslines and lyrics, and completed it together by June/July. It was recorded and mixed at The Malthouse by Dom Mitchison in August who hates us the most because he knows every word to our songs. It was then mastered by Fluid Mastering in London.
Who did you work with for the Stutter music vid?
Elliot Pearce is a member of the Heavy Lungs fellowship. We raised him from a young hatch-ling and molded him into the warrior he is today. This was his first video and he knocked it out of the park.
How did you feel opening for fellow post-punk band IDLES?
They’re our mates so we see those clowns all the time.
What is in the pipeline for Heavy Lungs?
We can’t wait to sell out and have our own late night chat show; maybe some music at some point.
How would you describe your live shows for people who have yet to see you?
A love fest of Tinder dates and broken eardrums.
Listen to the haunting ‘Abstract Thoughts‘ EP on Bandcamp and keep up to date with them on their Facebook and Instagram.
